What Makes A Glaze? with Chic Lotz
Understanding and Altering a Variety of Recipes
A hands-on experience for those who have already mixed
glazes or completed the ^6 Glazes: Mixing & Dipping
workshop. Learn what makes a glaze at any temperature.
Chic organized all the glaze ingredients into a color-coded
chart so you can see how varying the ratios of 3 major glaze
components affects stability, color, firing temperature, glaze
fit and glaze surface. Her chart shows the "big picture" of
glaze ingredient relationships.
Students will:
- learn to analyze a glaze recipe
- recognize the function of each glaze ingredient
- be able to substitute one ingredient for another
- mix a line blend and a double line blend for color
- play Glazo Bingo, Go Flux and Create a Glaze to
reinforce learned concepts.
- make a "Flo Brick" to hold upright test tiles
- compare glazes by weight % and Unity Molecular
Formula using GlazeMaster calculation software.
- alter glaze recipes to create the glaze that you desire!
Fee: $300 / 5 days Beg / Inter. Level : Has already mixed glazes
